What To Expect

What to Expect
If this is your first time seeing a chiropractor or if it has been a while you may have some
questions about what to expect.

Expect Something Positively Different.

Expect your visit to Vitality Chiropractic to be new and different from any healthcare experience you’ve had before. Perhaps even life-changing.

For starters, when you call to set up your initial exam you'll likely be able to be seen at once and always within a day of calling. Also, you won't need a referral or any insurance to receive care immediately. When you come in you'll be asked to fill out our initial intake forms (if you haven't already printed and filled them out from our website). Your initial forms helps us get a better idea of your health history and current needs.

During your first visit, our doctors will explain how joint dysfunctions may occur, how a chiropractic adjustment is used to correct them, and the many benefits chiropractic care has to offer. If you've never been adjusted before, this is a great way to have some of your questions answered by a knowledgeable licensed Doctor of Chiropractic, so you know exactly what to expect. The doctor will answer any questions or concerns you may have prior to initiating treatment.

Your Consultation, Exam and Adjustment

After the consultation, specific testing and exams the doctor will determine if you may benefit from chiropractic care. If so, you will be adjusted on our comfortable adjustment tables made specifically for this purpose. You will remain fully clothed for the duration of your visit, so we recommend you wear non-restrictive clothing to make it easier to rest comfortably while lying down on the table. A portion of your adjustment may be performed while you are face down, while other adjustments may be delivered while you are either on your side, sitting upright or lying on your back.

What is the Popping Noise When an Adjustment is Delivered?

The popping sounds that occur are your joints releasing tiny pockets of gases - like opening a pop can. A chiropractic adjustment does not affect the bones of either side of the joint, but rather the connective tissue that holds the joint together. If the 'popping noise' is a deterrent to you receiving care and getting better don't worry there are other ways to adjust you without creating that noise.

Is Chiropractic Care Safe?

Chiropractic is THE largest, non-invasive, drugless and safest form of health care available. Statistically, patient risk is substantially lower when receiving chiropractic care as opposed to medical care, where the use of prescription drugs and surgery pose a greater risk.

Does Chiropractic Care Hurt?

Chiropractic adjustment is a highly controlled procedure that rarely causes discomfort because minimal force and gentle pressure are used. In fact, most patients feel relief immediately following treatment.

Will I Be Sore Following a Chiropractic Adjustment?

Any reported soreness after an initial adjustment has been described as similar to that associated with starting a new exercise program. Drinking plenty of water, using an ice pack, and engaging in light stretching after your first visit can help ease any discomfort to promote healing.

How Long Will My Visits Take?

This all depends on the length and severity of your condition, however, most first visits may last as much as 30-45 minutes. Follow-up visits are much less, often as little as 5-10 minutes.

How Often will I need to Return?

When you come in for your report of findings, your doctor will determine the best course of treatment for your specific needs. The frequency in which you receive chiropractic care is strictly up to the professional judgment of the Doctor of Chiropractic and will vary from individual to individual depending on your presenting condition and overall goals. Just as regular visits to the dentist are necessary for good dental hygiene, routine visits to a Doctor of Chiropractic for proper spinal function and health maintenance are also important.

Our chiropractors treat patients by delivering a chiropractic adjustment. If, during the course of your exam, the doctor feels that care is contraindicated, you will be referred to the appropriate healthcare provider and/or facility.

Laying the Foundation

It is important for you to understand why chiropractic care works so well.

Your brain is the 'master computer' of your whole body. It controls everything that goes on in the body; from your lungs and heart, to your conscious and unconscious muscle function, and when you get hurt it even tells your immune system to go to the specific area and begin to heal it.

The brain sends those messages down the spinal cord which runs the entire length of your back and then out through the nerves which come out at every single level going to every muscle, organ, cell and tissue in your body controlling all function and healing in your body. It is very important to make sure that your Central Nervous System, this master system, is functioning without any interference, so that the information going from the brain to your low back muscles, your thyroid, and your heart and lungs is getting there 100%.

Pressure or irritation on any of your spinal nerves can result in less than 100% function. Keeping in mind that your nervous system is an electrical system an interrupted nerve signal would be like turning down a dimmer switch on your lights. You don't want 80% of the information going to your heart, your lungs or any organs for that matter.

Doctors of chiropractic are the only professionals that are properly educated and trained to locate and correct these irritations, called subluxations, so that your body can begin to communicate better and therefore function and heal better.

"Your body has an innate intelligence within it that keeps you alive without your conscious effort."

"Your body needs no help, just no interference."
